Jaguar Diesel AdBlue Problems — XE, XF, F-Pace & E-Pace Fix

Jaguar diesel AdBlue faults across XE, XF, F-Pace and E-Pace — and how we fix them without main-dealer prices.

Jaguar diesels share most of their SCR / AdBlue hardware with Land Rover, so the fault patterns are very similar. The XE, XF, F-Pace and E-Pace Ingenium diesels are particularly prone to NOx sensor and dosing issues once they pass 60-80k miles. The good news: the fix is well known and almost always doable in a single day.

Symptoms

  • 'No engine start in X miles' AdBlue countdown
  • Orange AdBlue warning lit after a top-up
  • Limp mode under load — common on the 2.0d Ingenium
  • Engine / glow plug light alongside AdBlue warning
  • Reduced fuel economy and rough running

Common fault codes

CodeMeaning
P229FNOx sensor 2 performance
P204FReductant system performance
P20EESCR efficiency below threshold
P207FReductant quality

What actually causes it

NOx sensor failure (most common)

The downstream NOx sensor on Ingenium diesels is the most common cause of Jaguar AdBlue countdowns. Replacement must be coded.

AdBlue dosing module crystallisation

Urea deposits block the injector and dosing accuracy drops, logging P204F or P20EE.

SCR catalyst ageing or contamination

Wrong-grade AdBlue or extended short-trip use damages the SCR brick, triggering efficiency faults.

AdBlue pump pressure loss

Higher-mileage XF and F-Pace cars lose in-tank pump pressure. Live data confirms the fault quickly.

How we diagnose it

  • JLR-level (Pathfinder / SDD) scan of engine, SCR and cluster
  • Live data: NOx signals, pump pressure, dosing duty cycle, SCR temperature
  • Verify the failing part before quoting any replacement

The repair, done properly

  • OE-spec NOx sensor, dosing module or pump replacement
  • Coding and adaptation to the vehicle
  • SCR adaptation reset and verified road test
  • Countdown cleared once the underlying fault is repaired

How to prevent it next time

  • Only ISO 22241 AdBlue from a sealed container
  • Top up before the orange light comes on
  • Take the car for a sustained motorway run monthly if it lives in town
  • Diagnose at the first warning — much cheaper than waiting for the countdown

FAQs

No — our repair returns the SCR system to OE-spec operation. The vehicle passes MOT emissions checks normally.
