Renault Master AdBlue Warning Light — Diagnosis & Fix
2020 Renault Master 2.3 dCi 145 (Euro 6d)· Watford, Hertfordshire
Steady amber AdBlue light, no countdown yet — and a 12-month-old van. Here is the full path from warning to permanent fix.
Reported symptoms
- Steady amber AdBlue warning on dash
- No countdown active (warning caught early)
- Slight loss of throttle response from cold
- AdBlue tank correctly filled with OE-spec fluid
Diagnostic process
- Renault CLiP scan confirmed P204F active and P20E8 stored
- Live data showed AdBlue dosing pressure dropping below target
- Visual inspection of injector tip — crystallised AdBlue deposits
- Confirmed tank fluid quality and lines clear
Findings
AdBlue crystallisation around the dosing injector tip was restricting flow, which the ECU interpreted as a reductant control fault (P204F) with a related dosing pressure code (P20E8).
Resolution
- Removed and cleaned the dosing injector
- Flushed AdBlue line and inspected pump output
- Refitted with new seals and re-pressure-tested
- Reset adaptations and cleared codes
- 30-minute road test to confirm warning extinguished and dosing pressure in spec
Outcome
Caught early, repaired in under three hours, no NOx sensor or SCR catalyst needed. Owner avoided a £1,400+ dealer quote.

Absolutely. Catching a P204F or P20E8 before the ECU starts the 'no engine start' countdown almost always means a cheaper, faster repair — and avoids any risk of lockout.
